The Bikes

The beauty of a custom bike is that it can be anything that your heart desires. Here are some examples of bikes that I have built. Click on the image to see the full process. I also have examples of custom forks , racks and stems that I have built.

I LOVE my PUNKIN.  I did the Ramrod this year, and it was simply fabulous – thanks to my beautiful bike.  The frame is stunning and fits me like a glove.  People on these rides now know me as “Punkin” – why the other day I was on a descent on a managed ride somewhere and some guy came screaming by me and yelled out “hey Punkin – looking good”…..giggle.

There has not been a six pack or load of groceries that this bike could not handle. I love my Gro-getter.

I like the joinery detail of the metal and the lightweight feature of the bike……and the color was spot on with what i had envisioned.

I had been riding a cross bike as my all around bike – commuting, road riding and an occasional dirt road.  I enjoyed the relaxed fit but didn’t want a bike that was quite as heavy and wanted something that handled better.  Given that most frames are designed for someone else’s body, I had not been able to find a bike that fit both my torso and my legs well.

The Gravedigger

Justin’s Gravedigger

I wanted a bike that could ride distance smoothly, climb willingly, decsend like a balistic missile and take a pounding while punching back. He asked me which bikes I liked to ride and took some measurements and set to work.  I was nervous at the begining as I felt like I coulden’t have possibly given him enough information.  Shortly Chris put me at ease, sent me plans and links to photos of the ongoing work.  It felt great to see the bike develop and to be “In the room” during the process. Chris did a perfect job of interpreting my needs and delivering a top rate product at an unbeatable price.

S.S.S. (Steve’s Seattle Special)

My Boedie rides exactly like I wanted it to. With fat 32c tires and fenders, it’s a real bad-weather warrior — I can roll through puddles, plow through storm debris on shoulders, descend with traffic down steep hills, and ride over bad urban pavement in the dark without worrying about losing control of the bike. Yet the bike is light and stiff enough that it’s really a ton of fun to ride hard; it’s a huge step up from the tank-like commuters I had been riding in the past. I have a fair number of hills on my commute, and I can really push hard up the hills when I want, and even stand up on the pedals with a load on the back of the bike without worrying that the frame is going to feel loose or flexy. Finally I feel like I have a tough commuter bike that’s also a real pleasure to ride when I need a wet weather bike for the weekend. I went out for a one-hour ride in the rain today, and was having so much fun I just kept going for another two hours.

Papa’s Bike

The ride is superb, the paint is an eye-stopper and it has all the components mixed and matched like I have always wanted. The first day I took it for a ride, at least 10 people wanted to talk about it and some tried describing the beauty of the bike to their spouse and children. A local bike shop owner even pulled customers over to it and raved about the workmanship.

The Un-mixte

My cruiser is not just a fancy fashion statement or a fun ride to the beach for the sunset. My cruiser is functional, getting me from the house to my office on time and carting home a ton of groceries at the end of the day. I am extremely proud of my custom cruiser and can be seen joy riding around town on a daily basis.

Chris Oftelie here. Glad all is going well and that you making your own bikes. Finally bought a road bike recently and I love it.

    Take care.

    • Great to hear from you Chris! Tell Jen hi.

  4. I will tell Jenn hello. I have a co-worker who is looking at buying a steel frame road bike. He likes the Mr. Pink by All City and the Pacer by Surly. How much do you typically charge for a steel frame?

    • Sorry for the delay in response Chris. I typically charge $1400 for a frame. Always open for discussion. Feel free to give your friend my contact info. Any plans to make it out here any time soon?
